Applied basic science serves as a simple but concise summary of all the anatomy, physiology, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, pathology etc all brought together in system based chapters. There is a good coverage of all subjects and whilst this is a review of science, Raftery has indeed meticulously applied it into the clinical basis of disease, helping you to learn the important details but cutting the unimportant chaff. Its forte is in its ability to serve as a one stop shop and saves you having to pull separate science books and then integrate all that learning into a clinical context- it integrates it all and would be perfect for quick refreshing or cover to cover swotting.
There are lots of old school anatomy diagrams dispersed throughout to take you back to those days of Grays anatomy, a cadaver and spotty first year medical students! A true gem that will save hours of laborious revision.
