Teaching time in orthopaedics is often limited, and student numbers so large, that I am sure I am not the only medical student confused by the clinical aspects of the subject. This book does not claim to be a substitute for clinical experience, but it is an invaluable confidence booster. Its chief strength lies in the illustrations; each page contains around 5 pictures, x-rays or detailed diagrams demonstrating how to test particular aspects of function, accompanied by clear explanations of the key findings and how to interpret them. Each chapter also contains a few pages of revision of key anatomical features of the area and some discussion of its important orthopaedic conditions. The book truly adopts the cut – to – the – chase approach you might expect of a stereotypical orthopaedic surgeon…!
