Ben Molyneux, University of Bristol

Whether you are a lover or a hater it is one of the GMC requirements that medical students have a working knowledge of complementary and alternative therapies (CAM). Since very few medical schools actually commit to teaching it, this book is a great substitute to formal teaching. I was surprised as I just expected a list of therapies with a short blurb about each but in fact there is everything you need to know about CAM in a nutshell. The text explains the medicolegal and ethical aspects to CAM as well as challenging the medical perspective to healthcare. The whole book is only 85 pages so there is an element of brevity but it contains all the salient information a medical student would need to speak confidently to patients about CAM. You may even find that it sparks an interest in the ‘other side’ of medicine!
