Craig Dale, The University of Edinburgh

This book covers all the basics you need to learn about in gastroenterology, from both symptom-based and disease-based approaches. Information is broken down into very neat chunks with clear learning objectives in each chapter. I found that small bowel and large bowel conditions were covered very thoroughly but the book does skim over liver and biliary stuff a bit. If used in conjunction with other revision materials I believe it will be of great benefit to any medical student. I made full use of the extensive self-assessment MCQs and EMQs and got a great result in my GI exam!

This book is a great way to start learning a subject from scratch, and grasp a good understanding of the basics needed before trying to understand the pathology. In addition this book is great for highlighting the important areas in each disease. The mcq's and case based questions are great for exam revision. Although it does not go into as much detail as perhaps needed, it does provide you with great last minute revision before an exam, and the layout is easy to follow. Finally, the flow diagrams and pictures are great for easy understanding!

This book is another in the usually well written series. I liked the clinical slant with chapters devoted to symptoms and history taking as well as the usual disease/system/organ based approaches. The multiple choice chapter also provides a good way of checking on learned knowledge and consolidating information.... or as an extra revision source. Lastly, i think that although this book is not as detailed or thorough as heavier books it does provide a good method for reinforcing the important bits of information. Or, the book may also act as a useful introductory run though the key points of gastroenterology. All in all a useful addition to the library.

This is a great concise little book, which covers all the important parts of the GI system. The thing i like best is that the first part is divided into symptoms which is the way in which you encounter diseases on the ward. The diagrams are the same as the bigger more complex book, but the text MUCH more manageable!

All in all a really useful book. It is great for looking stuff up in in the detail that you are expected to know. There are plenty of good pictures and all the information is relevant!I found the MCQ questions especially useful!

This book really helped me grasp the basic concepts of the GI system. It was short to the point and exactly what i wanted. The illustrations are relevant and help to exemplify the main points.
