Crash course obstetrics and gynecology is a fantastic resource for a simple yet comprehensive guide through my obs/gyn placement. I attempted to use other sources but some were too detailed in particular areas while others did not provide enough information about simple examinations and processes in obstetrics. CC Obs/gyn not only provides the information but how to write it up our findings, present, what to look for in different case presentations and how to manage them. I found it easy to read and understand - so much so that I enjoy reading it repeatedly.I would say it is a must have for OSCE finals in Obs/gyn. I bought it to add to my small collection and don't regret it.

As with other Crash Course books it is helpfully split into Patient’s Presentation and Diseases & Disorders, which is useful for revision on the wards or for generally. The chapters have plenty of information about the patient history or conditions, with explanatory diagrams and tables to enhance learning. This book provides the basics of obs &gynae with example questions at the end, however another, more detailed, book will be required for those looking to have a greater knowledge in these specialities. Crash Course Obstetrics and Gynaecology is very useful book for revision purposes.

I like the structure of this textbook. It has lots of tables and diagrams which helps in memorising/visualising facts. Like all books in the crash course series, this book is split into 2 major sections: the first covering patient presentations - it gives you clues to look for in the history, and the findings that would be expected on examination and investigations. The second section covers disorders and explains the aetiology, management, complications, etc. The book is very useful for learning the basics of obs&gynae and provide questions at the back which help with revision. The content is definitely sufficient for one to get through an exam but does not provide any more detail than that. The MCQs and EMQs at the back seem easier than the questions in exams.

I award this book a BUYER RATING of 2/5. This is the third in my collection of Crash Courses. And you can pretty much read the other reviews to get the idea. A good feature of this book is the illustrations. Medicine is very much an apprenticeship; see one, do one, teach one. And Obstetrics ad Gynaecology is one of those areas where you have to really get involved to understand what’s going on. But if you don’t get the opportunity then step by step illustrations are probably the next best thing. The only drawback to this book though is that you may need a little more help to complete your knowledge and “I wouldn’t rely completely on this book to get me through” – as said by one of my peers. Its not everyones cup of tea but if you are a fan of the Crash Course family then definately give it a try. Enjoy, Latifa (“,)
