Due to the diversity of course structures in medical schools in the UK and around the world, clinical exposure occurs at different types. Traditionally, clinical years began after a two or three year grounding in medical science. Nowadays, more students can have contact with patients even from their first year of study. Doctors may be unaware that students may have only just begun studying Medicine, so their expectations may be inappropriately high. This situation leads to the market for some way of rescuing students who are being mistaken for people who have taken several more years of study than they have. Introduction to Clinical Examination is not simply a smaller edition of Macleod’s Clinical Examination with non-core content trimmed out, the text bears little in common. It is a book targeted specifically at those hitting the wards for the first time. Delving into the text is not going to lead to being lost in an irrelevant section. This book is ideal if you simply wish to know what to do, when to do it and in what order. For those of you fortunate enough to be able to use white coats, this will fit your pocket. Otherwise, it is still worth carrying around.

I award this book a BUYER RATING of 5/5. I received this book as a Fresher courtesy of the MPS and I absolutely adore this miniature version of McLeod’s Clinical Examination. It is perfect for putting in your oversized pockets and taking on the wards whilst you are still getting your head around the whole meeting the patients bit. After which you will have without a doubt memorised this book. Its filled with core skills and extras which are sure to make you look slick and somewhat of a swot on any ward round. A must have for any Medical Student. Enjoy, Latifa (“,)

Macleod's that fits in your pocket (well, if you bend it a little). A nice little clinical skills book that can be easlily carried on the ward or left in a locker. Contains all the basics and more. Perfect for the first few years as a clinical student. Keep your larger clinical skills book on the shelf at home and keep this close in hospital.
