Aniek de Coninck, Maastricht University

This seems to be the definitive embryology book for medical students, due to the high quality diagrams and explanatory text. As a revision guide, there are excellent summaries at the beginning of each chapter, accompanied by the development in pictorial form. The clinical relevance is graphically demonstrated through photographs of developmental abnormalities which add interest to an otherwise dry and conceptually hard subject. The development is split into early weeks and systems, all with experimental principles and clinical applications, which give this book excellent structure. Although the reading can at times be hard-going, overall, a must buy.
