As its title suggests, this anatomy atlas is for the clinical student. Compared to other anatomy atlases it is smaller, which is an advantage for the highly mobile clinician. However, image sizes are inevitably compromised as a result. Although the illustrations in McMinn’s are by no means small, personally I prefer the larger images of Moses’ Atlas of Gross Clinical Anatomy for studying at home or in the library. However, for transport to and use in dissection sessions, I would take McMinn’s for it’s more convenient size. The new edition contains a section on the lymphatic system which, although not substantial enough for my course, is a valuable addition that will undoubtedly evolve with later editions. Personally, I would prefer lymphatics to be included in the “head to toe” arrangement of the rest or the text rather than as a final chapter aside. However, I am a preclinical student, and when I become a clinical student I will definitely use this clinical atlas, as well as the accompanying DVD which contains many clinical cases which are referenced throughout the text.

McMinn’s atlas is exactly what I find I need for first and second year anatomy- clear concise pictures to complement anatomy sessions. Although not required now I can see that the clinical notes found at the end of each chapter will be useful in the future and annotations throughout make it easier to understand. Personally I didn’t find the bonus CD of 3D rotatable anatomical models that useful except for the tests which are always good. Otherwise I don’t think that I can fault the book. It’s simple but detailed enough for my needs and doesn’t weigh a ton like some of the others!
