I agree with the previous reviewer that Biochemistry quite important an topic and I found quite difficult. This book is quite comprehensive but has been presented in a pleasing readable form that will suit med students for their pre-clinical years as well as clinical years.

An aesthetically pleasing book in full colour which makes an excellent job of appealing to both medical students and those who’s degree is primarily concerned with medical biochemistry. Appeals to medical students who want to go above-and-beyond, or those who want a detailed book to use for SSMs in addition to their normal work. Appears more up-to-date with current research than its rivals. Great 'Concept boxes' breaking up large blocks of text, summarising information and focusing attention. More detail than you need for day-to-day PBL, but so well designed that picking out the important information is easy enough.

Biochemistry is an important topic for any student and learning it can sometimes be difficult especially when you don't have the perfect book. Baynes does a great job of teaching biochemistry. I particularly like the snippets of information in the Clinical Boxes. Its like someone has sifted through the text and outlined the important bits for you - so you don't have to. For this reason its also great for revision. The online feature is also a great bonus. Enjoy, Latifa (",)

Medical Biochemistry’s general organisation is excellent. I like the full-colour illustrations and the clinical text boxes that keep me interested when I’m just about to nod off. The attempt to give an overview of the entire book on one page is brave and well worth a look. Although the level of detail is extensive, it is well broken up by headings and this makes it ideal for PBL. Content is bang up-to-date and concise. After using the online resources of a few American textbooks, it’s refreshing to see UK course relevant Multiple Choice Questions, Patient Orientated Problems and Short Answer Questions that Medical Biochemistry’s online resources offer. For a biochemistry book that provides maximum clinical relevance look no further. I would recommend that any library catering for Medical students stock many copies of this book.
