An amazing pathology book that does exactly what it advertises. Covers pure pathology. Although aimed more at traditional courses knowledge of basic pathology is vital to any medical student. Quite easy to follow even for a beginner, with chunks of information broken up by perfect illustrations. I'm a scribller when it comes to learning - I highlight and write notes to myself on the page. i find the text in Robbins a bit small leaving little room for notes hence not entirely ideal to revise from.

This book is extremely useful and well-written. A pathology textbook is probably not the most common purchase among medical students but it covers what is missing from most clinical textbooks — the pathological mechanisms of hundreds of conditions. The level of detail, which is surprisingly high for a book entitled ‘basic pathology’, is perfect for year 3 medical students and compliments all clinical rotations. This textbook works for pre-clinical students whilst learning the basis of medical conditions as well as clinical students who have forgotten the pathogenesis of even the most common conditions. It is ideal to refer to alongside a clinical textbook and is also useful for use in essays. The online supplementary material allows you to have access to the content without carting the book about, as well as to use the diagrams (which are colourful and easy to understand) in written assignments.

Do I need more than this book in order to master pathology? I say: back to The Robbins! Although my med school recommends other textbook, this one is my choice.
Easy to read, famous name, great illustrations and photos...and this BIG pathos (from lat. - Suffering) could be much more easily and faster mastered.
This book has it almost all; however I would love to see more detailed described microscopic features of disease and some anatomy/physiology review. Nevertheless this book has become centre of my pathology study in very short time and I am going to recommend it to all my fellows without any doubt.

Excellent book. Detailed, readable and with clear pictures. First chapters explain the basics well. Reading later chapters gives an in-depth understanding without much effort. Explains complicated material in an understandable manner. Good tables and well defined “morphology” boxes are easily found and read. A summary explaining the meaning of specialised words within pathology would have been very much appreciated, but overall a fantastic book and highly recommended. Excellent to use with Atlas of Pathology by Robbins and Cotran.

An excellent book giving a detailed account of the subject, although maybe in slightly more depth than needed by a medical student. I think this new edition (8th) is a lot easier to read than the previous one due to the modification of important tables and diagrams, improvements in the layout and the addition of summary boxes, which highlight key points and are a useful reference.
An extremely valuable extra that comes with the book, is the online access enabling you to view the full text via the internet and there is also access to an image library, a drug database, a virtual microscope and pathology videos.
Overall this book gives the reader a well-rounded understanding of the subject matter in a clear and well-presented manner.
