Emma Jackson, University of Manchester

I wish that I had this book during my first year. It would have made some of the more complex and even some of the straightforward topics, much clearer to understand. The book covers a lot of physiology and biochemistry and by using clear diagrams enables you to understand the mechanics of e.g. the action potential much more easily than a wordy description. Once you have looked at the diagrams you can then refer back to the text which gives a more detailed description which you are able to apply having grasped the basic understanding from the diagrams. Although I have covered many of the topics in my first year I can see I will over the next 2 years frequently refer back to this book to clarify my understanding of topics which make up an important base for my further medical learning. I used the book in my revision where I was able to quickly skim read and check if my understanding was good enough.
