I think the Flesh and Bones series are an excellent series to use as an introduction to a topic and then to go back to and revise from. Once again Flesh and Bones have produced yet another excellent book. Microbiology is a subject that I feel is neglected at medical school and as medical students we don’t understand how important it is. After spending time in hospital I came to realise 2 things; my microbiology was shocking and it was vitally important to know the basics when it comes to prescribing antibiotics. This book provides thorough, concise information in an attractive layout with both a mixture of text and pictures. It also for revision purposes or speed reading has 100 high return facts which are very useful. Each topic is spread over a 2 page spread and at the start of the page are a number of questions you should be able to answer after reading the information. This again is very useful when it comes to revision. The appendix also contains some very useful tables for quick reference about notifiable diseases and other useful information. I think that my microbiology will have definitely improved once I have worked my way through this book. I would definitely recommend it for anyone struggling to find a medical microbiology book, rather than hacking through one of the larger and probably too detailed microbiology textbooks.
